Janet Earline Sosby Irwin passed away peacefully at age 80, on July 19, 2013, while a resident of Grace HealthCare of Tucker (GA). Janet was born August 24, 1932, to Nell Adams Sosby and Robert Earl Sosby of East Point, GA., the middle child of three siblings. Janet attended William A. Russell High School in East Point, graduating in 1949, then Truitt-McConnell College in Cleveland, GA. She toured with the College's Choral group and earned her Associates Degree in Arts. She had a talent for and interest in singing which was exhibited in the First Baptist Church of East Point, where for several years during her teens she participated in choir, sometimes as soloist. She experienced difficulty in landing employment after college due to her medical condition (she began experiencing petit mal seizures in infancy) but finally found a place at Georgia Baptist Hospital, Atlanta, where she worked in Medical Records for 23 ½ years, retiring in 1989. While attending Utoy Springs Baptist Church in the Cascade area of SW Atlanta, she met, and married in 1970, Jared Hubert Irwin, a widower and career (retired) U.S. Army Sergeant First Class. Hubert died in 1990, after an extended illness. During their married life, the Irwins helped start, and attended Dorsett Shoals Baptist Church in the Douglasville area. She was currently a member of Foundation Baptist Church, Lithia Springs, GA. Janet had, from an early age, lived as a Christian, deeply involved in Bible Study and church related activities. Her physical limitations prevented her from participating in many activities during childhood and presented obstacles throughout her adult life. She was blessed, however, with a spirit of generosity and a penchant for composing lovely and meaningful poems. Her love for angels and roses and the color red often found its way into her words and décor. She is survived by sister, Gretta Wray Burns of Decatur, GA, nieces, Gail Sosby Klemm and husband Robert,(Miami, FL); Nina Broadway, (Hillsborough, NC), Virginia Chandler and husband Eric,( Miami); nephews Jeffrey L. Wray, (Lilburn, GA), and Barton Sosby, (Hillsborough, NC); several great nieces and nephews.
