Janet McKenzie, age 72, passed away on March 7, 2010 at Hospice of Atlanta. She was born on January 1, 1938 in Tobago, West Indies by the late Deta & Frederic McKenzie. After leaving Tobago, she moved to Brooklyn, NY to start a new life and journey. Evident by her actions & lifestyle, it was obvious that Janet shared her gift of nursing individuals who needed care. She worked as a home healthcare attendant for more than 20 years for United Jewish Council, where she was a pioneer in her field, and received numerous awards, including caretaker of the year. It was more than just a job. It was her calling. Known to make your mouth water, Janet’s next best hobby was cooking. Every New Years, Easter, Labor Day and the holidays, she would always have those exquisite dishes that made you coming for more: Roti, Oxtail, Curry Chicken, and the list goes on. As the rock of the family, Janet was smart, loving and possessed an unforgettable personality and humor. A wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, there will never be another Janet McKenzie. She will always be remembered for her gratitude and words of wisdom. Janet is survived by three children, Cecil, Debra & Erica; her daughter-in-law, Rachel; 8 grandchildren, Anthony, Ayana, Jah-Kefim, Daniel, Ebony, Kayla, Khalil & Kaiden; and 2 great-grandchildren, Joshua & Taylor. In addition she is preceded in death by numerous brothers & sisters and many loving friends.
