Janice Louise Hughes, age 60, passed away on November 30, 2008. She was born on November 1, 1948 in Atlanta, GA to Dr. and Mrs. David James Hughes. Jan was a graduate of Druid Hills High School and she attended Emory at Oxford. She later earned a nursing degree in Jacksonville, FL and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of GA in 1986. She had an active law practice for several years before retiring. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Julius and Louise McCurdy; her father, Dr. David James Hughes; and her husband, Richard Wayne Dalton. She is survived by her mother, Ann McCurdy Hughes; and her daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Mark Lackey. She is also survived by her sister, Judy Hamilton; and her brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Susan Hughes; as well as many nephews. Jan was a member of Emory Presbyterian Church and was a resident at Atria Buckhead where she enjoyed helping residents with craft activities and physical fitness classes. A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 4th at 2 p.m. at Emory Presbyterian Church, Rev. Jill Oglesby Evans officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jan’s memory to Emory Presbyterian Church, 1886 N. Decatur Rd, Atlanta, GA 30307. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 3rd at A. S. Turner & Sons.
