Jason R. Smith, 95, born, raised and passed away peacefully in his beloved Decatur, Georgia surrounded by his family on Friday October 26, 2018. He is survived by his three daughters, Sophia (Stan) Parrott, Teresa (Bill) Waters and Karen Jenkins (Russ Fraze); grandchildren Shelby (Jason) Guzzardo, Julia (Jeremy) Callahan and Jason (Brooke) Parrott; great grandchildren, Brady, Emery, Luke, Collins and Keegan along with several nieces and nephews, loyal friends Bill Chapman, Elaine Thurston, Jan Thurston and a legion of wonderful neighbors and friends in the Oak Grove community. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years, Christina “Tina” Sirmas Smith. Jason was born on November 13, 1923 the youngest son of the late Fannie Quill and Frank A Smith. A native of Decatur, Georgia he attended Oakhurst Elementary, Decatur Boys High then the Woodrow Wilson School of Law. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and spent 2 ½ years in the South Pacific Theater. After returning home he was employed by The Wood Flong Corporation of Hoosick Falls New York, a newspaper specialty paper manufacturer. He left the company in 1978 as Vice President Sales Manager. At the age of 55 along with his wife began his own successful company Royal Graphics, Inc. a newspaper supply distributor, selling the company and retiring as President and CEO in 1990. During retirement, he enjoyed visiting his second home in Florida, playing golf, attending church and his almost daily visits to the Oak Grove Market. He was a charter member of Clairmont Presbyterian Church and transferred his membership to Decatur Presbyterian and was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School class. He will be remembered fondly as “The Mayor” of Westfield Square and Oak Grove Market greeting nearly everyone he met with an incredible smile, story and opinion. He will be missed by many. The family will receive visitors on Monday, October 29th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at A.S. Turner & Sons, Decatur, Georgia. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 30th at 2:00 pm at Decatur Presbyterian Church with a reception following.
