Jean Gilbert Witcher passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Mildred and William ("Bud") Gilbert. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Bill Witcher, her sons, Bradley and Chris Witcher, grandchildren, Jade, Kayla, Abigail, Lilli and Dennis, her brother, Bill Gilbert (Lucia) of Whitefish, MT, nephews Drew and Ben, and niece Haley Gilbert.
Jean was a fifth generation Atlantan, who graduated from North Fulton High School, Atlanta, and Wesleyan College, Macon, GA. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, who was active in numerous church, community and children's activities.
Jean was an inspiration to us all. After being diagnosed with breast cancer 16 years ago, she formed and facilitated numerous breast cancer support groups through the Breast Cancer Survivor's Network. She continued to facilitate a monthly support group for breast cancer survivors at Briarlake Baptist Church in the Northlake area. Most of all, Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who dedicated her time, energy and optimistic outlook to the happiness and well-being of others. She particularly enjoyed her relationship with the many international students she met and "mothered" through the Stone Mountain Rotary Club.
The funeral will be held at Decatur First United Methodist Church, 300 E Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur, GA, on Monday, April 27 at 2:30 pm.
Breast Cancer Survivor's Network, 21 Eastbrook Bend #223, Peachtree City, GA 30269, and The Winship Cancer Institute, 1762 Clifton Road, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30322, were two of her favorite charities.
