Jeff Carl Thompson, 86, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at Emory Eastside Medical Center after an extended illness. He lived most of his life in Atlanta, where he was a graduate of Boys High School in 1937 and Georgia State University in 1942. He was retired from the Western Auto Store that he and his wife owned and operated in Avondale Estates, GA from 1956 to 1969. Jeff was a veteran of the United States Army Signal Corps during World War II, where he served at the Pentagon and encoded personal messages from President Franklin D. Roosevelt addressed to the Allied commanders-in-chief, and under General Douglas McArthur in the Pacific Theater stationed in Australia and the Philippines. Prior to this, he was an announcer and statistician at WSB radio station when it was located in the old Biltmore Hotel. He was a member of Avondale Pattillo United Methodist Church. Jeff was predeceased by his wife Frances Titshaw Thompson. Survivors are 2 sons and daughter-in-law, William S. Thompson of Atlanta, Stephen B. Thompson and Susie F. Thompson of Norcross, GA; 2 grandsons, Jeffrey S. Thompson and Dustin P. Thompson of Lilburn, GA; and 1 granddaughter, Sarah F. Thompson of Norcross, GA. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Reverend Tayve Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
