CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR JEFF SHAW

Jeffrey L. (Jeff) Shaw passed away on May 7, 2021, at the age of 57 in his home in Atlanta, Georgia due to an undetected battle with Coronary Disease. He was born on January 12, 1964 in Denver, Colorado to parents Larry and Linda Shaw.

Jeff spent the early years of his life in Lakewood, Colorado with his parents and two sisters, Leslie and Natalie Shaw. He graduated from Bear Creek High School in Lakewood, where he was recognized for receiving 12 athletic letters in high school for swimming, track and field, and cross country for each season in his 4 years of high school. Jeff was passionate about athletics throughout the entire course of his life and carried this passion into his adulthood as an energetic and die-hard supporter of his daughters’ soccer, swimming, and tennis endeavors.

Jeff graduated from The Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO in June of 1986 with a degree in Political Economy. During that time, he served as editor-in-chief of the Catalyst student newspaper and received the Cutler Publications Award for Outstanding Student Publications in 1986.

After his graduation, Jeff began working at FirstBank of Colorado as a Loan and Operations Officer. He worked there for several years and also served as Head Coach of the Willow Creek Swim Team before moving to Kansas to attend the University of Kansas Law School, where he graduated with a Juris Doctor degree in 1993 at the top of his class. He practiced law in Kansas, and later moved to South Carolina, where he continued to practice law, and finally to Atlanta Georgia for his final years of legal work. In Atlanta, he laid roots with his former wife, Susan Shaw, and lived out the remainder of his life with his two daughters, Sydney and Maddie.

Jeff maintained a number of interests over the course of his life. He closely followed both daughters in their soccer careers, attending many practices, games, and tournaments. He was extremely active within the soccer community and served as the announcer during the Grady High School soccer games for both Sydney and Maddie’s high school years. Additionally, he spent many years coaching Sydney and Maddie’s respective teams during their childhoods.

Aside from participating in his daughters’ extracurriculars, Jeff also enjoyed the outdoors. He performed many hikes in Colorado, Georgia, New Hampshire, and Montana during the course of his life. His other interests included politics, professional and collegiate sports, and current events. He loved to spend time with his daughters in a variety of ways, whether that meant bowling, watching a new movie, or tubing down the Chattahoochee River, as they had done for Father’s Day in 2020.

Jeff is preceded in death by his father, Larry Shaw, who passed in November of 2019 after a two-year long battle with lung cancer and his uncle, Stan Shaw. He is survived by two daughters, Sydney and Maddie Shaw, his former wife, Susan Buerkert Shaw; his mother, Linda Shaw; two sisters, Leslie Carter and Natalie Groeger; aunts, Karen Conley and Helen Shaw; cousins, Jack Conley, Paige Pecore, Angela Conley, Jodi Shaw, Dan Shaw, and Andrew Shaw; and his beloved dog, Stella.
