Jerrold Bruce Padgett

January 10, 1942 — November 15, 2012

Jerrold B. Padgett, 70, passed away Thursday Nov. 15, 2012 at his home in Decatur from complications of diabetes. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Sondra Lancaster Padgett. The couple is formerly of Spartanburg, SC. Jerrold attended Whitney Elementary School in Spartanburg SC where he was the state
yo-yo champion; he then attended Cleveland Junior High School where he was a varsity football player. He attended Spartanburg High School, played football, was a Boy Scout and Eagle Scout and earned Order of the Arrow. He graduated from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN, majoring in Business and Marketing. He belonged to the Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve, serving in Norfolk, VA and Jacksonville, FL. Jerrold retired from the State Corrections Department of Georgia serving as an Adult Probation Officer in DeKalb County for twenty-seven years. Jerrold was an avid Native American Art and Artifact collector, traveling to Native American Villages, Trading Posts, Pow-Wows, and trading with Native Americans to add to his collections. He was also a member of the Train Collectors Association, because of his interest in antique Lionel Trains. Jerrold is the son of the late Jack Dan Padgett and Gladys Manuel Padgett of Spartanburg, SC and the grandson of the late Leila Addy Manuel of Columbia SC. He was preceded in death by a Brother-in-Law, Terry Wayne Lancaster of Spartanburg, sc. He is survived by one brother John Harvey Padgett and wife Peggy Padgett of Timberlake NC; Mother-in-Law Margaret Lancaster of Spartanburg, SC; a sister-in-law Carol Lancaster McClellan and husband Rev. Scott McClellan of Spartanburg, SC; Brother-in-Law Rev. John Lancaster and wife Tammy Lancaster of Waterloo, SC; Brother-in- Law, Rev. David Lancaster and wife Barbara Lancaster of Spartanburg; He is also survived by thirteen beloved nieces and nephews and five great nieces and nephews as well as his best friend Gerald Horsley and wife Georgia Horsley of Conyers, GA. Jerrold was an active member of Avondale Estates First Baptist Church, where he was loved and respected. The funeral will be held at 7:00 pm Saturday November 17th in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons with Rev Clay Bowden and Rev. David Lawrence officiating. Graveside service will be held at Floyd Cemetery at 2:00 pm Sunday November 18. The family will receive friends at 6:00 pm Saturday evening at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
