Jesse Edwin Creech, Jr., age 92, of Decatur, Georgia passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 22, 2022 in hospice care at his home. Jesse was born June 5, 1930 in Decatur, Georgia to the late Jesse and Gladys (Morris) Creech. He was the youngest of six children, the devoted brother of the late Jewel Acevedo, Curtis Creech, Winston Creech, Wilbur Creech, and Sidney Creech. He was the devoted husband of Betty (Smyly) Creech for 69 years who survives him in death. He is survived by his three children, Ed Creech (Kelly), Max Creech, and Polly Creech (Tony). His four grandchildren, Carrie (Jacob), Lindsey (Chris), Laura (David), and Robin (Matt), were a special source of pride and devotion. Jesse also has seven great grandbabies.
Jesse grew up in Decatur, Georgia and graduated from Decatur Boys High School in 1947. After graduation, he worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company until 1950 when he was drafted into the United States Army where he proudly served for two years in Frankfurt, Germany. After an honorable discharge from the military, he returned to Decatur to work for Southern Bell and AT&T. In 1985, Jesse retired from the telephone company and continued to work in telecommunications for independent companies.
Jesse will be fondly remembered as a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather "Poppy", and greatgrandfather. He was an extraordinary person with a great strength of character, loved church activities, sports, camping, boating, water skiing, hiking, shooting, woodwork, aviation, automobile maintenance, and photography. He was a master craftsman building a large room on his house including construction, electrical, and plumbing. Camping with his family at the lake and mountains was a special joy and he constructed a beautiful camper for his 1967 Ford F100 pickup truck. Jesse and Betty enjoyed traveling and made memorable trips to the New England states, to Hawaii with Max, and to national parks in the West and Northwest United States and Canada with Ed and Kelly. He lived vicariously through his children and grandchildren. A well-lived life.
