Jewell B. Dendy, 102, of Decatur, died on Friday November 4, 2011. Jewell was born in Birmingham, AL on March 9, 1909 to Lucy N. and Charles M. Beal. She graduated from Ensley High School and Birmingham Southern College and earned her MS degree from Wofford College. In 1972, Jewell and Rev. Marshall B. Dendy were married and lived as an example to all who followed. Actually, they led a full and wonderful life-one of great benefit to the worlds in which they lived. She was the beloved and always helpful pastor’s wife in several Presbyterian churches including Haleyville, AL, Acworth, GA Covington, GA and Reidville, SC. Reidville was their church home for many years. After Marshals death, Jewell continued to live in Reidville. In addition to her community service as a pastor’s wife, she led a full life as a school teacher. She was much loved by the students of Burns High school in Spartanburg, SC where she taught English for many years. It’s fair to say the community is indebted to her for it’s excellent use of the language and for her example of selfless service and inspiration. The last five years of her life was spent in Atlanta, GA with her sister Sylvia Kyle. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Reidville Presbyterian Church, 340 College Street, Reidville, SC 29375 with Rev. Todd Buchner officiating. Interment will be in Nazareth Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 680 Nazareth Church Road, Moore, SC 29367. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Reidville Presbyterian Church, 340 College Street, Reidville, SC 29375. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A.S.
