Jewell Fowler Goodson, 92, of Decatur, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Oct. 17. The memory of her life is cherished by son Mickey Goodson and wife Carol Hadley of Decatur, son Gary Goodson and wife Heidi White of Baltimore, grandson Chris Goodson and wife Carrie Keogh of Decatur, sister Georgia Reed of Rock Hill, SC, and several nieces and nephews. Jewell was married for 63 years to Green Berry Goodson, who died in 2010. Jewell was one of 16 children on an Alabama cotton farm. As a young adult she was a cotton mill weaver. In the 1960s-70s, she served customers in the fabric sales room of Scottdale Mills. Ms. Goodson was engaged in Baptist churches wherever she lived, including Red Springs and Wallace NC, Clarkston GA, Zephyrhills, FL, and Decatur. Jewell loved God and walked humbly. She was committed to justice, to kindness, and to living a life of service to others. A service of celebration and worship will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, Oct. 22, at First Baptist Church, Decatur. Burial will follow at Decatur Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations honoring her life may be directed to any charity. A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
