Jill Renee Triemer (nee Dixon) died peacefully at the Fountainview Center for Alzheimer’s Care in Atlanta, Georgia after a decade long battle with Frontal Temporal Dementia on Friday, May 5, 2017. She was 59 years old. She is survived by her husband, David Triemer; her sons, Stephen Wesley Triemer and Matthew William Triemer; and her only sibling, Jacques Dixon, Jr. Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Nancy Ruth Marks of Lynchburg, Tennessee, and Jacques Harold Dixon, Sr. of Daphne, Alabama.
Jill was born in Mobile, Alabama on January 8, 1958 to Nancy and Jacques Dixon, Sr. She was raised in Biloxi, Mississippi until 1969 when Hurricane Camille precipitated her father’s transfer to Gulf Breeze, Florida. She lived in Gulf Breeze until she graduated High School in 1976. She was an honor student and marched in Banner Corp. Her family had a stable where they boarded horses; Jill was the proud owner of a Tennessee Walking Horse named Gingerman and infamously barrel raced this huge gelding at rodeos.
She married her high school sweetheart, David Triemer, in 1978 and they began a rich and rewarding life together that included stops in Gainesville, Florida, Poughkeepsie, New York, Knoxville, Tennessee, and Atlanta, Georgia. She had two sons, Stephen and Matthew. Jill was thoroughly engaged in the lives of her children frequently volunteering as room mother, den leader, team mom, choir mom, and youth chaperone.
Jill was a member at Tucker First United Methodist Church for most of her adult life. Besides her volunteering in the children’s and youth programs, she at different times participated in United Methodist Women, rang bells, served on various committees, helped run and organize various youth missions, participated in several overseas missions, and was a member of the Agape Sunday School class. She was a volunteer at the TFUMC preschool after going out on disability in 2009.
Professionally she worked in accounting and a mothers’ morning out program before going back to school with two young children and getting her degree in education at age 40 from Georgia State University. She worked as an elementary school teacher at Magill Elementary and Arcado Elementary schools before going out on disability at age 51 due to her early onset dementia. She spent the last three and a half years of her life at the Fountainview Center for Alzheimer’s Care.
Jill enjoyed traveling, hiking, camping, festivals, country music, and theater. She loved animals riding horses in her youth, and showing dogs in her young adulthood.
Beyond these skeletal facts was a remarkable and engaging woman. Her quiet demeanor belied a woman fully and ferociously engaged in life. She was passionate about children and animals and devoted her life to the care of not only her own two beloved sons, but also to numerous children and students through her years as a mothers’ morning out director and elementary school teacher. She was a servant in the best sense, volunteering frequently at her church and at her children’s schools and sports associations. She was courageous and dedicated, choosing to go back to school in her 30’s while caring for two young children. Her courage was evident as she weathered the challenges of the neurodegenerative effects of Frontal Temporal Dementia. Jill was above all gentle, playful, and loving; a good wife, mother, and friend to those privileged to know her.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, May 20th at 11:00 a.m. at A.S. Turner and Sons in Decatur with Dr. Mike Cash officiating. A visitation will precede the service at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jill's life.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (www.theaftd.org) or the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
