J.L. "Jay" Ritchie

J.L. "Jay" Ritchie, 85, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday April 15, 2014 after a lengthy battle with colon cancer. Jay was born on June 14, 1928 in McComb, MS to Jessie and Ellie Ritchie. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. He worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad for 37 years until retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Avondale Estates where he had been a Sunday School Teacher, Director of the Senior Adult Sunday School Department and a choir member. Jay is survived by his wife of 64 years Mary Ann Ritchie; daughter Joan Boyd (Ralph), Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sons, Mark L. Ritchie (Denise), Atlanta and James A. Ritchie, Decatur; grandson, Chris Sandel, Sunrise FL., 4 great-grandchildren and step-grandson , Patrick Barton. Funeral Services were held Friday, April 18, 2014 at The First Baptist Church, Avondale Estates with Rev. Tommy Langford officiating. Burial was at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge. A.S.
