Joan Hearn Barnes

Joan Hearn Barnes, 74, of Ellijay, GA was called home to Heaven on Friday, May 19, 2017. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Newton Baptist Church in Covington, GA. Reverend Larry Burgess will be officiating. Joan was born in Decatur, GA on December 19, 1942. She graduated from Decatur High School. Joan was married to Eric Brooks Barnes on July 10, 1971; they were married 45 years. Joan worked as a Computer Systems Operator for Wesley Woods for 27 years. She enjoyed playing canasta every Tuesday with her neighbors, reading her Bible and listening to Josh Groban, Pentatonix and John Denver. Joan is survived by her husband, Eric Barnes; daughters, Stephanie Illick and Shannan Troyer, sons-in-law Andrew Illick and Michael Troyer; grandchildren, Nevan and Megan Illick, Savannah and Tristan Cline, Porter Troyer and other family and friends. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph T. Hearn and Lourine Chafin Hearn and her brother Charles Palmer Hearn. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to The American Heart Association or St. Jude’s Hospital. The family of Joan Hearn Barnes wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the amazing team of Doctors and Nurses at Grady Memorial Hospital as well as the staff of Harbor Grace Hospice.
