JoAnn Dodson Scott, died unexpectedly at her home on January 29, 2009. Born in Atlanta, she graduated from Decatur High School and attended Georgia State University. JoAnn married Charles Scott at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer June 14, 1957. They traveled the world, and had recently returned from a wonderful Hawaiian Vacation. JoAnn loved to garden, was active in her church and played tennis at Druid Hills Golf Club, where she was known to have a "wicked backhand". She retired from Arthur Andersen & Co. after 17 years. JoAnn was a 30 year breast cancer survivor, and a dedicated volunteer with Susan G. Komen Foundation. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her high school friends "The Sunshine Girls". They spent many happy hours together on the beach in Fernandina. JoAnn was preceded in death by her father Russell William Dodson. She is survived by her husband, Charles; daughters, Leigh Ann (Steve) Sadler of Decatur , Melanie (Gene-o) Young, Park City Utah, Lauralee (Jay) Burke, Lawrenceville; grandchildren, Andrew and Annabelle Werling, Will and Madalyn Burke; mother, Josephine Dodson, Decatur; sisters, Mary Louise (John) Cattaneo, Satelite Beach, FL, Nancy (Gene) Davis, Decatur, GA, and by her beloved cat "Sweetie". She is also survived by numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends. The Family will receive friends Sunday, Feb 1 from 3-5 at A.S. Turner & Sons. Funeral services will be Monday, February 2, 2009 at 11 am at Decatur Presbyterian Church, Dr. Todd Speed officiating. Burial will follow at Decatur Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to the Komen Foundation at htlp://ww5.komen.org, or to Decatur Presbyterian Church 205 Sycamore Street Decatur, GA 30030 in memory of JoAnn.
