Joanna Braswell Hannah, 88, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, in Atlanta, GA.
Joanna and her twin sister, Jane, were born on May 31, 1936, in Moultrie, GA, to Marvin and Annie Laurie (Edwards) Braswell.
She graduated from Decatur High School in 1954. After many years as a devoted homemaker, Joanna pursued higher education, earning a degree in history from Georgia State University in 1973 and later a law degree from the University of Georgia in 1976. She married Harry Hannah, who preceded her in death, and together they built a life in Hartwell, GA, where she established her career as an attorney.
Joanna was known for her strong opinions, love of a good debate, and deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures-curled up with a cozy mystery novel, a glass of white wine, and a bit of milk chocolate. She also had a special love for Yorkshire Terriers and treasured the companionship of many throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Yacavone; her beloved grandchildren, Aleta (Adam Stubin) Mills-Stubin, Georgia Mills, Kevin (Rachel) Fleming, and Calvin (Katrina Lim) Fleming; and her sister, Jane (Calvin) Cruse. She was also a proud great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren.
In honor of Joanna's memory, donations may be made to the Atlanta Union Mission.
