Joanne Dillard (Manis) Addison, 78, passed away on September 14, 2016, in Atlanta, Ga. Joanne, the only child of Mabel and B.R. Dillard, was born in Rome, Ga. on February 16, 1938. Joanne grew up in Rome and graduated from Rome High School in 1956. She attended The University of Georgia and graduated from Shorter College. After her five children were born and in school, she received a Master of Education degree from Berry College. Joanne was an elementary teacher in the Floyd County and DeKalb County School systems for many years. She was a very active member of The First United Methodist Church of Rome.
After moving to Atlanta, Joanne became a member of Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church, where she was a charter member of the Chancel Choir and Red Hat Society "Sassy Ladies." She was also past President of the Joy Club and member of the United Methodist Women's Club.
Joanne loved people! Wherever she went, she made friends and surrounded them with laughter and fun. She was an author of a children's book, "Midnight with Mimi," based on an actual, exciting night spent with one of her grandchildren.
Joanne is survived by her children, Melinda Manis Rue (Jon) of Atlanta, Monica Manis Thomas (Tommy) of Peachtree City, Marie Manis Bowles of Marietta, Roger Louis Manis, Jr., of Atlanta and Michelle Manis Cates (Stewart) of Kingwood, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, whom she adored—Julianna Rue Cagle (Spencer), Elizabeth Rue, Jonathan Rue, Jr. (Amanda), Daniel Rue, Marianna Thomas, Matthew Thomas, Spencer Bowles, Caroline Cates, Allison Cates, and Stewart Cates, Jr. She is also survived by her two great grandchildren, Carter Cagle and Davis Cagle. Joanne was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Addison.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, September 19, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church, 3142 Lawrenceville Rd., Tucker, GA. Burial will take place at 4 p.m. at The Head of Tennessee Baptist Church, 895 Franklin St., Dillard, GA. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home, 2773 N. Decatur Rd., Decatur, GA. Memorial contributions can be made to Lawrenceville Road United Methodist Church, the Atlanta Humane Society, or the National Parkinson Foundation.
