Joanne Hooten, of Decatur, age 90, passed away on May 29, 2017, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, George Hooten in 2009. Born and raised in Elbert County, Georgia, she attended West Georgia College, and later moved to the Atlanta area to begin her work career, get married, and raise a family. She retired from the Department of the Army, with 37 years of service at Fort McPherson, Georgia. Over the years, she enjoyed traveling with George to far-flung places, such as Hawaii, Alaska and Europe. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur, and was a member of the Joy/Adelphia Sunday school class. She is survived by her sons Michael and wife Charlene; Donald and wife Becky; her beloved grandchildren Leigh, Hunter and wife Yates Marie, David, Hannah, and Cal; her nephews Steven, Randy and Robb Tribble and their families, and her nephew Chris and niece Petrea Ward and their families. The family will receive friends at A. S. Turner and Sons in Decatur on Wednesday May 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Graveside service will be at the Decatur Cemetery Thursday June 1, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the 1st Baptist Church of Decatur, 308 Clairemont Ave., Decatur, GA 30030.
