John Alan Moore, age 87, passed away on Saturday, April 13th, just 5 days before his 88th birthday. He was born on April 18, 1936, in Atlanta, Ga. to Z.O. Moore and Mildred Akins. He moved to Chattanooga, TN at the age of 6 where he grew up with his loving parents and little sister Diane Moore. In Tennessee, his loves were: water skiing for hours behind his father's Chris-Craft boat down the Tennessee river, and his first car at age 16; a 1928 Ford A model-sport coupe with a rumble seat, which he kept his entire life!
Alan left Chattanooga to attend Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Ga. He earned a bachelor's in business and graduated in 1958. While at Oglethorpe he met the love of his life, Ina Dorothy Foster. They married in 1959 and had 2 children: John Alan Moore Jr. and Mary Susan Moore.
Alan will be remembered by family and friends for being a loving husband and father. He had a great sense of humor and a gentle spirit. He was the definition of a "southern gentleman", if you pulled up in the driveway for a visit...you may notice when you leave that your car was recently washed! And even when he could barely walk himself with arthritic knees, he would insist on dropping his family off at the front door of the restaurant. He was a hard worker, and a salesman until his legs couldn't keep up with his strong work ethic! He was the family handyman- never meeting a challenge he couldn't conquer. He loved reading his Sunday morning newspaper, and if there was an article that reminded him of a loved one he would cut it out and give it to them. He also loved anything related to boats, cars, planes and trains. But most of all, he loved his wife, kids, family members and especially his Sandy! Sandy, his 13 yr. old Shih Tzu, rescued at 3 yrs. old, became his best friend! He would sit with her all day on the sofa or on the front porch watching over his neighborhood. And if it was baseball season, he had a standing date (well...sitting date) with Ina and Sandy watching the Braves game every chance he got! He will be dearly missed by all that know him!
Alan is survived by his wife, Ina Foster Moore, and his children: John Alan Moore, Jr., and Mary Susan Moore, and his daughter in law, Jackie Breiter. He is also survived by his sister: Diane Moore of Franklin, TN., his sisters and brother in law: Anne Dean, Betty and Frank Pate, and Emily Foster. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Donations may be made in his memory to your favorite charity.
