John Jack Lutz has gone to join his loving wife Margie this Easter. He was preceded in death by his parents, C.P. and Mamie Harris Lutz, sisters Grace Lutz Perkinson and Mary Elizabeth Moore, and his wife of 67 years Edith Margie Harrison Lutz. Born in Nashville, TN in 1920, Jack was adept at building and repairing anything mechanical. After the death of his Mother in 1936, he finished high school and was accepted into Vanderbilt University's Electrical Engineering College. He then began working for ATandT as a lineman and survey crew chief. Seeing the ominous changes in the world, he enlisted in the U. S. Army 2 months before Pearl Harbor. One year later he would be departing from Hawaii to the South Pacific Theater as a Flight Engineer with the 307th Bomb Group. As a Master Sergeant, he served with distinction as flight chief in the 13th Army Air Corps, 424th Squadron of B-24s throughout their campaigns in Guadalcanal, New Guinea, Dutch East Indies, and the southern Philippines. For his actions he was awarded a Silver Star and 2 Bronze Stars. After discharging from the Army Air Force in September 1945, he re-joined ATandT and worked in the southeastern U.S. as a Longlines Pioneer establishing their telephone network. It was there he met his future wife Margie Harrison. They were married in 1947. He spent the next 35 years with ATandT in various roles including microwave tower location, television broadcast feeds, and managing ATandT office building construction until he retired in 1982. Along the way he earned several engineering innovation awards. He and Margie, having raised their 2 sons, began traveling the U.S. and the world even while he was still working as an architectural consultant for ATandT. Jack and Margie were long time members of Briarcliff Baptist Church and were very involved volunteering with its social and operational activities. Jack continued on as a board member for Kingsbridge Retirement Community until he retired once more in 2005 at age 85. He led a full life and was loved by all who knew him.
