John Charles Walton, 70 of Newnan, GA died Friday, January 7, 2011, at his home. A native of Nashville, TN, Charlie graduated from Hillsboro High School and received a B.S. at David Lipscomb College and a Masters degree at Peabody College. He and his family have lived in Georgia since 1970.
Charlie taught school, did mission work in New Zealand, worked with medical missions in Honduras and served as an elder in the church of Christ at Northlake in Tucker, GA. He was a writer for the last 40 years, writing business and education materials. In recent years he had written several books on grief and prayer.He was preceded in death by his parents John and Virginia Walton, and two sons, Tim and Don Walton. He leaves his wife, Kay (Narey), his son Rick Walton (Melinda) and two grandchildren, Gabriel and Liliane Walton, brother Doug Walton (Sherry), four nieces, a nephew, and four great nieces. Family will receive visitors at the A. S. Turner Funeral Home in Decatur, GA from 6 to 9 pm Saturday, Jan 8th. The funeral will be at the Northlake Church of Christ at 1625 Cooledge Rd. in Tucker, GA. at 1 pm on Sunday, Jan 9th. Charlie will be buried next to his sons in the Floral Hills Cemetery on Lawrenceville Hwy in Tucker, GA. A memorial service will be held at 10am Sunday, January 16th at the Southern Crescent Church of Christ, 315 Dogwood Trail in Tyrone, GA. In lieu of flowers, Charlie would love to have donations made to two of his favorite ministries, Predisan.org or Mission Lazarus in care Southern Crescent Church of Christ, 315 Dogwood Trail, Tyrone, GA 30290.
