John Dana Poulos, age 60, of Snellville, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, April 29, from cardiac arrest. He was preceded in death by his mother, Christina P. Poulos, and is survived by his beloved wife of forty years, Pamela Andrus Poulos. Mr. and Mrs. Poulos lived in Wichita Falls, Texas for many years after their marriage where he taught in middle and high schools and was an athletic coach. He and his wife have been living in Snellville the past seven years where he most recently taught and was defensive football coach (Rams) at Grayson High School.
Mr. Poulos is also survived by two sons, Peter Poulos and John Michael Poulos, his brother, Jimmy Poulos and sister-in-law Joanie Poulos, his sister, Lisa Poulos Williams, and his father, Pete J. Poulos, all of Atlanta, his sisters-in-law Cameron Andrus and Stephanie O'Hara of Wichita Falls, Texas, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. John loved his Greek heritage and especially looked forward to the celebration of holidays, cooking Greek meals and preparing with his brother, Jimmy, their famous Greek salad. His two favorite pleasures were fishing and playing golf with his beloved friends. When he was a youngster he played baseball on the Glenwood Hills baseball team and football for the DeKalb Yellow Jackets, where he excelled and was known as "Curly" for his beautiful hair. John was a United States Air Force veteran and served a tour in Vietnam. He was a graduate of Towers High School and the University of Georgia and earned his master's degree in Physical Education and Health. John's smile and personality will be greatly missed by his family, friends, students, and the Grayson High School football coaches. He was elated that his team this past fall had made it to the Elite Eight State Playoffs and was looking forward to the game in the Georgia Dome this coming August. Visitation hours with the family will be from l:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, May 3, at A. S. Turner Funeral Home in Decatur, with the funeral following at 4:00 PM in the Turner Funeral Chapel. The remains will be cremated. Arrangements by A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home. Donations may be made in memory of Mr. Poulos to the American Heart Association or to the Grayson High School Touchdown Club.
