Brigadier General John F. Collins, U. S. Army (Ret.) died Friday, September 18, 2009. General Collins flew 62 combat missions in World War II and was awarded Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, six Presidential Citations and numerous Theatre and service medals. Retired Marine General Raymond Davis had endorsed the recommendation that his Silver Star be upgraded to the Medal of Honor. He is survived by his son, Robert Wesley Collins of Stone Mountain; sister-in-law, Lena Fouche of Stone Mountain; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Thelma Fouche of Eatonton. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons with Mr. Lamar Weaver officiating. The family will receive friends fro 12 to 1 PM Tuesday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
