Mr. John Marvin Fleming, 89, of Decatur, Georgia, passed away on September 9, 2009, after a long illness. Mr. Fleming was born in Commerce, Georgia on August 7, 1920. He was the son of Thomas Grayson and Mary Elizabeth Gordon Fleming. Mr. Fleming and Ruth Jeannette Arial were married December 25, 1940. Survivors include his wife Jeannette; brother, Odis Fleming; sons, John Philip Fleming and Thomas Michael Fleming; daughter, Linda Ruth Fleming Lewis; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The country is diminished by the loss of another veteran, Mr. Fleming honorably served in the US Navy during WWII, in the North Atlantic on convoy escort duty. After the war, he began his own air conditioning and refrigeration company in metro Atlanta which continued for 51 years. He was greatly respected in his profession and known for his sterling qualities. Though a man of few words, his words carried substance, weight, and validity. To quote the late Bertice Bradford, former neighbor and friend, “If Mr. Fleming said it, then you knew it was right!” The funeral will be Saturday, September 11, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons. The graveside service will be at 2:00 PM at the Sunrise Cemetery in Maysville, Georgia. Visitation will be on Friday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at A. S. Turner & Sons.
