Mr. John Maurice Allen, Jr., 76, of Atlanta, died Thursday, July 30, 2009. He was born in Dallas, TX and lived there until the age of six, the only child of Helen and Maurice Allen. He also lived in Baltimore, Richmond, Denver and Decatur, GA. He graduated from Decatur Boys High and Georgia Tech. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the U. S. Army at Ft. Benning. Mr. Allen was the owner of John Allen, Inc., women’s apparel stores in Atlanta for almost thirty years. He also sold small airplanes in partnership with four friends for about eight years. He was a Trustee for the Haggai Institute, a worldwide Christian evangelist training organization, and traveled widely with the organization, assessing their needs and progress. Mr. Allen was an active leader and deacon at Clairmont Hills Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a deacon at First Baptist of Decatur and Wieuca Road Baptist Church. He served on many committees and special projects at Wieuca, including 12th grade youth leader with his wife Jeanne, and they were also members of the Adult Choir and Wind Ensemble. Mr. Allen was an accomplished pianist. He and Jeanne were active members of the Atlanta Concert Band and enjoyed snow skiing and camping together. His hobbies included collecting antique cars, remodeling homes, and golfing with the senior golfers group at Ansley Golf Club. Mr. Allen is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jeanne Loucks Allen; sons, John M. Allen III of Baldwin, GA, Keith L. Allen of Palm Harbor, FL; daughter, Debbie Stratton Wood of Newnan, GA; five grandchildren; and uncle, Bill Wagner of Atlanta. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 3, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Wieuca Road Baptist Church. Rev. Michael Tutterow, pastor of Wieuca Road and Dr. John Edmund Haggai, founder of the Haggai Institute will officiate the service. Interment, Decatur City Cemetery.
