John Maxwell White, Sr.

Mr. John Maxwell White, Sr., age 84, died Thursday, March 1, 2012. A longtime resident of Decatur, he was born in Adairsville, GA on December 1, 1927, the youngest son of Claude E. White, Sr. and Sarah Maxwell White. John graduated from Model High School in Shannon, GA and attended GA Tech. He married Lou Ella Greer on July 2, 1949. He served in the United States Marine Corps , retired from Delta Airlines in 1991, and was a longtime active member of Scott Boulevard Baptist Church. John was preceded in death by his wife, Lou Ella White and brother, Claude E, White, Jr. of Rome, GA. Surviving are his son, Dr. Max White of Decatur; grandchildren, Sarah Catherine White of Chicago, IL and John Charles White of Corpus Christi, TX; and Jane Hoelzer White. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Greg Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Scott Boulevard Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, March 6th from 5 until 7 PM at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
