John Michael Oglesby

John Michael Oglesby, 73, a native Atlantan and longtime resident of Decatur died Monday, July 24, 2023 after a brief illness. Mr. Oglesby was retired from the City of Atlanta Police Department. He graduated from Druid Hills High School in Atlanta and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He was an avid Vols football fan.

Mr. Oglesby is survived by his mother Betty Presswood Oglesby of Decatur and sister Pam (Guy) Elmore of Milton, GA; nieces Jennafer Elmore Tuffner (Michael) of Charleston, SC and Kimberly Elmore of Nashville, TN. He was preceded in death by his father Jay Oglesby of Decatur.

John enjoyed his daily visits to Dunkin Donuts to meet friends, and was a powerlifter in his younger days. He still worked out regularly at the gym. He was also a dog lover.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 5, 2023 at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, with family visitation at 12:00 noon.
