Mr. John R. Comer, 85, of Tucker, GA, died December 12, 2009. A longtime residence of Decatur, GA, Mr. Comer was a retired Motorcycle Police Officer for the city of Decatur, where he worked for over 30 years. He served his country during World War II in the U. S. Navy. Mr. Comer was a longtime member of Columbia Drive Baptist Church and currently belonged to the First Baptist Church of Tucker. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Doris Caudell Comer and two brothers. Mr. Comer is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Stuart Popwell of Auburn, AL; son and daughter-in-law, John and Cathy Comer of Lilburn, GA; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Margaret Comer of Huntsville, AL. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Monday, December 21, at Decatur Cemetery with Rev. Phill Nall officiating. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Atlanta Humane Society, 981 Howell Mill Rd., Atlanta, GA 30318. The family will receive friends from 3 – 5 PM Sunday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
