John Rufus Branscomb, 88, of Stone Mountain, GA, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2021.
John was born in Orlando, FL on September 10, 1933 to Bishop John W. and Elizabeth Branscomb. Growing up in Orlando, he met and fell in love with Dorothy Eiselstein. Following his graduation from Emory University, the two married and settled in Decatur, GA, soon living the idyllic family life with their two sons, Jack and Jim. They enjoyed vacations at the beach and sports at all levels, from Medlock Park, to Druid Hills High School, and agonizing each year over the Falcons, Braves and Hawks.
John started his career with C&S Bank at the Broadview Plaza branch. When he later took a position with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, his family wasn’t sure if the move was a career advancement, or just a way to get a great parking spot for all the sports events at the Omni. Following retirement, he and Dot enjoyed travel, hiking, and outings and dinners with their many friends at Park Springs.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Dot, just 3 months ago. He is survived by sons Jack Branscomb (Lisette) and Jim Branscomb (Karen); grandchildren Katie Kish (Dan) and Glenn Branscomb (Lauren); and great-grandson Levi Kish. He will be remembered by all he ever met for his ever-present beaming smile.
A visitation for his family and friends will be at Turner Funeral Home in Decatur on Monday, October 25, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 26 at Mountain Park United Methodist Church at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of condolence, please consider a donation to the Park Springs Foundation.
