Judge John Sanford Patton, Sr., 96, of Atlanta passed away on Wednesday September 4, 2013. Judge Patton was a retired Federal Administrative Law Judge. One of his greatest accomplishments was having argued and won a labor case before the United States Supreme Court. Judge Patton was an active member of Briarlake Baptist Church since 1968 having served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He taught both the Progressive Men's Class and the Business Men's Bible Class as well as serving as the devotional leader of the Young at Heart Class and the Kiwanis Group which meets at Briarcliff United Methodist Church. Judge Patton is survived by his four sons, John Sanford (Sandy) Patton, Jr. and his wife, Carole; Richard (Dick) Dunn Patton and his wife, Diane; William Gerald (Jerry) Patton and his wife, Jane: and Robert (Robbie) Hoskins Patton; sister, Betty Sue Sullivan. In addition he is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeanette Patton, Sarah Patton, Ian Patton, Sean Ginosky and Chuck Ginosky. Funeral services for Judge Patton will be held on Sunday September 8th at 3:00 pm at Briarlake Baptist Church with Rev. Rodney Webb and Dr. Tommy Ferrell officiating. Interment will follow at Peachtree Memorial Park where he will be laid to rest beside his loving wife, Elizabeth Seiber Hoskins Patton, who preceded him in death. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Briarlake Baptist Church, 3715 LaVista Road, Atlanta, GA 30033. The family will receive friends at the church prior to his services from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and Saturday evening Sept 7th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
