Family and friends mourn the passing on July 23, 2007 of John Sigalos, 86, of Hallandale Beach, FL and a former long-time resident of Marietta, GA. Mr. Sigalos was born in Stamford, CT and spent his youth in Athens, Greece. He joined the U. S. Merchant Marines as a young man and in 1941, he enlisted in the 101st Airborne Division of the U. S. Army. He parachuted into Normandy in the early hours of D-Day on June 6th, 1944 and served throughout the ensuing campaigns, including the Battle of the Bulge and the siege of Bastogne in Belgium. He and his wife Anna (ne Kavadellas) settled in Marietta, GA in 1952, where they spent 30 happy years raising their children, Helen, Argy and Nick, and running their restaurant business. During their residence in Georgia, John and Anna Sigalos were members of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of The Annunciation in Atlanta, GA. In 1982, they retired to Florida where John became a familiar sight on the shore each morning as he engaged in his favorite pastime, fishing. They were members of the Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Hollywood, FL, enjoying the company and fellowship of their many friends there. With the happy addition of four grandchildren to their family, John and Anna Sigalos divided their time between Florida and Georgia. John Sigalos is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna Sigalos; daughter, Helen and her husband William McCreedy of Dearborn, MI; daughters, Argy, her husband Mark Russell and their children, Anna Marin and Christian of Atlanta, GA; and son, Nick, his wife Jane Tucker Sigalos and their children, John and Jason of Tucker, GA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 A.M. at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of The Annunciation at 2500 Clairmont Road, NE, Atlanta, GA with Father Paul Keriotas officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 9 P.M. Wednesday with a Prayer service at 7 P.M. at A. S. Turner & Sons.
