John V. Economy

John V. Economy, died on Monday, May 8th 2017. He was born in Kalamata, Greece on January 5, 1930. In 1937, he along with his parents and siblings immigrated to the United States and settled in Atlanta. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Georgia, where he earned undergraduate and graduate degrees. He served honorably in the army during the Korean War, and after his discharge he began his career in education in the Atlanta Public School System from which in retired in 1986. In 1990, he and his oldest son, Victor, opened Economy Auto Sales, Inc., where he worked for more than 26 years. He was a lifelong member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral, a member of Aghia Ekaterini Fraternity for more than 70 years, and of Danaos Society for many years. He also belonged to the local, state, and national education associations and was a member of several education honorary societies. He is survived by his loving wife Jean with whom he was married 57 years, his son Victor J. Economy and daughter-in-law Theodora, his son George J. Economy and daughter-in-law Eva, granddaughters Alexis (Will), Jennifer (Max), Elizabeth (Chris), grandson John Peter, and great granddaughter Ellie. Also surviving are his brother Nick V. Economy and sister-in-law Angela, brother-in-law Kleomenis Kliossis, and a number of cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews both in the United States and in Greece. He was predeceased by his youngest son, Constantine and by his sister, Georgia Kliossis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Annunciation Day School, c/o Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2500 Clairmont Road, Atlanta, GA 30329. The funeral will take place at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Wednesday, May 10th at 11:00 a.m. The interment will be at Floral Hills Cemetery.
