John V. King, Jr.

John V. King, Jr., 83, passed away on September 22, 2016. He was born on August 17, 1933, in Rome, GA. He was the son of the late John Vandiver King, Sr., and Frances Johnston King.

John attended Rome High School and Darlington. He was a graduate of John Marshall University and played minor league baseball in the Washington Senators organization. John worked as an examiner with the Georgia Industrial Loan Commission and joined Tenneco Oil Company as an auditor, retiring as Division Audit Supervisor. He was a member of North Broad Baptist Church in Rome and attended Clairmont Hills Baptist Church in Decatur. John was a member of the Titanic Historical Society, the Norwegian Elkhound Association and the Georgia Bulldog Club. An avid Georgia Bulldog fan, John was a season ticket holder for more than 50 years. He loved to attend the Bulldog Lunch Bunch and their weekly meetings.

He married Doris Wallace of Canton, GA, in 1966. She passed away in 1996. In 1998, he married JoAnne Port Rickman-King of Decatur.

Surviving him are his wife, JoAnne; step-son, Mike and Joell Rickman; step-daughter, Karen and Clay Ryals; and 10 grandchildren.
