Dr. John Webb Simmons, III, 83, of Decatur passed away peacefully on Monday July 28, 2014. Born in Martinsville, VA to Ruth Evadner Morgan and John Webb Simmons, Jr., and grandson to country doctor, Dr. John Webb Simmons, Sr. Webb is predeceased by his brother, Dr. Banks Simmons. He attended Hampden-Sydney College followed by medical school at the Medical College of Virginia. Following medical school, Webb served his country during the Korean War at Scott Air Force Base. He then returned to Medical College of Virginia to complete his pediatric residency. He and his young family moved to Georgia in 1962 and he joined The Decatur Pediatric Group and enjoyed a long career as a caring pediatrician who was greatly loved by his patients and their parents. His patients loved his funny stories and the length of time he would spend with each and every family. Webb enjoyed fishing and spending time with his friends and family. He also excelled in tennis and was an avid golfer, as well as watching golf and UGA football on TV. Dr. Webb is survived by his lovely, devoted wife of 36 years, Sarah Havener Parker Simmons. After Sarah's retirement from a long career as a nurse, Webb and Sarah enjoyed a long, happy retirement filled with gardening and time with family and friends. He is also survived by his children, Dr. John W. Simmons, IV (Holly) of Snellville, Mary Paige Rabren, of Fairhope, Alabama, and Alice Gepp (Randy) of Atlanta; his five grandchildren, Heather, Ally, Anna, Wes, and Dylan as well as his sister, Elizabeth Miller. Webb was a joking, fun-loving father, loving husband and devoted friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers the family requests a remembrance in the form of contributions made to Briarlake Baptist Church where his services will be held on Wednesday, July 30th at 11:00 am officiated by Dr. Tommy Ferrell. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 29th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
