John Wyman Lamb

Judge, Attorney and Vice President of Georgia Power

With deepest sorrow, we announce that John Wyman Lamb, age 86, our most beloved father, grandfather, uncle, family member, friend and “A Hell of An Engineer” passed quietly on September 1, 2021 from heart disease.

Wyman attended Richmond Academy in Augusta, Georgia where he enjoyed playing football and was inducted into the Richmond Academy Football Hall of Fame. Then after graduation he eloped in 1957 with his 16 year old sweetheart, Judith Blackmon Lamb as he went off to Atlanta to college attending Georgia Tech. In order to pay tuition at Georgia Tech, he co-opted with Georgia Power initially working on the line crew fixing power lines. In 1958, he graduated with a Bachelor in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech. Being the determined and tenacious young man that he was, Wyman realized that he wanted to become a lawyer. So while working full time at Georgia Power, he attended law school at night and got his Law Degree from Emory Law School in 1968. Amazingly enough, he also had the time to start a family welcoming his children Mark in 1959 and Tracie in 1962 and Todd in 1964. Wyman was very successful at Georgia Power getting many promotions. In the early 1970’s, he started the Security Department at Georgia Power and hired the esteemed Law Firm of Troutman and Sanders as Georgia Power’s primary legal counsel. He worked for Georgia Power for 37 years and retired as Vice President of Risk Management at the age of 55. After retirement, he opened a sole Proprietor Law Firm in Stone Mountain with his beloved Wife, Judy, as Secretary and his daughter, Tracie Lamb, as his paralegal. He worked 30 years as a sole practitioner in the state of Georgia and was very renowned and respected by his peers in the legal community.

Wyman was a very devoted family man and absolutely loved being a father and grandfather. He was viewed as the monarch of the Lamb family and was both respected and revered by his entire family in that important role. He also had a deep love for his fellow man and his country and was an intensely patriotic man always waving the American Flag proudly in his front yard. He was a world traveler embarking on cruises with his wife, Judy while checking off his exotic bucket list of cities and countries from Easter Island and Bora Bora to New Zealand and all the ports in-between. He was a distinguished member of Smokerise Country Club and developed many momentous friendships while dining and enjoying their best glass of Merlot. Wyman was also passionate about his love and devotion to his alma mater Georgia Tech and enjoyed rooting on his team on the grid iron and at Alexander Memorial Coliseum where he and Judy were considered “Team Mascots”.

After the diagnosis of his wife, Judy with Lewy Bodies (LBD) in November 2017, Wyman made it his highest priority to lovingly care for his wife of 66 years to make sure that she had anything humanly possible to show his “beautiful bride” the love and devotion that she had attained and deserved. His daughter, Tracie’s role shifted away from the practice of law to devotedly caring for the mom that she worships and her best friend in life.

But it wasn’t until later in life that he achieved one of his all time biggest dreams of all. In 2019, Wyman was appointed to a judgeship at Tucker Municipal Court! Besides his family, this is by far one of his proudest achievements in life and his family was once again proud of such an extraordinary goal being meet by the Monarch of the family.

Wyman is predeceased by his son, Mark Lamb, and his parents Jack and Willie Lamb and is survived by his loving wife Judith Blackmon Lamb, his brother William Franklin Lamb; his daughter Tracie Lamb and her Wife Rhonda Britt, his son, Wyman Todd Lamb and his wife Mary Anne, his daughter- in- Law, Robin Lamb and his grandchildren Amy Lamb and Stephen Lamb and his wife Madison and his great grandchildren Samson and Annaleigh Lamb, as well as his nieces Julie Pinkham and her husband Don, Natalie Lamb and Marianne Jones and her Husband Mike and nephew David Blackmon and Wife Susan and their children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday September 12, 2021 at Gwinnett Community Church, 2516 Five Forks Trickum Road, Lawrenceville, GA. 30044 with visitation @ 1 PM and Service @ 3 PM.
