ALMAND, JOSEPH ANDREW Joseph Andrew Almand was born February 6, 1941. He was a longtime resident of Avondale Estates. A very loving and humble, Harley-Davidson owning, smooth jazz enthusiast who loved an ice cold beer or two before dinner, Andrew was a ride or die Georgia Tech sports fan his entire life, as well he loved all Atlanta sports teams. A member of the Decatur High School's Class of 1959, Andrew met and married his high school sweetheart, Betty at the tender age of 17. Soon after, they had a son and moved to LaGrange, GA, where Andrew attended LaGrange College for 2 years prior to transferring to Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. Raising a young family while striving to further his education, Andrew found his career with Kraft Foods, Inc. in Decatur, GA, for 31 years of loyal and dedicated service, prior to an early retirement in 1993 at the age of 52. Long time members of the Decatur Presbyterian Church, when his wife retired in 1996, both “Andy” and Betty escaped to their dream cabin in Gatlinburg, TN that they had built from the ground up. They lived up there for many years before buying another home back in Avondale Estates, while splitting their time in their beloved Great Smoky Mountains.
Married over 59 years, Betty cherished Andy as the sweetest and generous man she’d ever known. He could be counted on to give you the shirt off his back without expecting anything in return for himself. He and Betty made a wonderful and loving home for themselves and their children, and that love and compassion for his family will remain with them for an eternity.
