Joseph Berry Vandigriff, Jr. died Monday, October 26 at his home in Atlanta, GA at the age of 85. He was preceeded in death by his father, Joseph Berry Vandigriff and mother Myrtle Ivy Watts Vandigriff. He is survived by a sister, Mirian Ivy Vandigriff Jones of Atlanta, a nephew Peter Van Jones of Atlanta, a niece Priscilla Jones Tunnell and a great nephew Mark Vaughan Tunnell both of Rome, GA. and other great great nieces and nephews. Berry, as he was called by family and friends, attended Commercial High in Atlanta and New York University. He served in the United States Navy as a yeoman to the captain of the U.S.S. Washington, this ship was also active in bringing troops home from the war. He worked as an interior decorator in New York and Atlanta. He was active in the life of Wieuca Road Baptist Church serving as a deacon, director of a singles department and a long standing member of the sanctuary choir. A service of celebration for his life will be at A.S. Turner's Funeral home on Thursday, October 29 at 3:00 p.m. officated by Rev. Priscilla Tunnell. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Turners. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens on Lawrenceville Highway.
