Joseph Hawkins passed away on Friday, November 15, 2013 in Atlanta, GA. He died peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by family, colorful tie-dye prints, and love and well-wishes from all over. Hawkins, 58, was a devoted father, husband, art teacher, and friend. He lived in Henry County, worked at Stockbridge Middle School, and made countless pilgrimages to New Orleans, where he met his wife and lived for several years. With his one-of-a-kind dance moves, Hawkins loved listening to music, attending concerts, and was happiest during his annual trip to the Bonnaroo music festival in Tennessee. He was supremely generous and believed that "if you don't love everyone, it doesn't count." Hawkins is survived by his wife, Janet, children, Katie and Rory, a son-in-law, four sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family encourages loved ones to leave a generous tip at their restaurant or bar of choice. Joe loved nothing more than to surprise servers, valets and bartenders with his incredible generosity. The funeral will be held at Columbia Presbyterian Church in Decatur on Saturday, November 23, at 2:00 p.m.
