Joseph Martin Schaber, born February 3, 1981, in Las Vegas, Nevada, died unexpectedly from a heart attack while out kayaking, his passion, on December 11, 2024, in the Mossy Creek State Park, Georgia. Born to parents Wade and Lenora Schaber, Joseph lived in many places as both parents served in the United States Air Force, including Germany, South Dakota, Guam, California, and Alabama. He moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 2000, where he met his wife, Brittany Burdett, the love of his life for over 20 years.
In Atlanta, Joseph cultivated friendships, many of which he felt were as close as siblings to him. He liked having a truck and wasn't afraid to use it to help anyone in need. Joseph knew and said what people needed to hear and was widely known for getting stuff done. He especially loved wildlife, cared for all sorts of animals, and is credited with saving the lives of Nutters the squirrel, countless stray cats, and multiple turtles from busy highways.
Joseph viewed life to be lived to the fullest. Throughout his lifetime, he embraced cooking, grilling, motorcycle riding, scuba diving, spearfishing, cave exploration, mountain biking, skateboarding, rock climbing, tree climbing, home improvements, and all aspects of beer and spirits manufacturing, sales, and distribution. In his free time, he worked a job.
Most importantly, Joseph took care of people, especially his wife, Brittany. Everybody wanted to be his friend. He was a devoted husband, a natural leader, and a trusted friend to many. His integrity, loyalty, and kindness exemplified his character, born of his strong faith in God.
