Joseph Smith

November 27, 1920 — July 5, 2008

Joseph “Joe” Smith, Sr., 87, of Conyers died Saturday, July 5, 2008. Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed bird watching. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Evelyn Kelley Smith; and his second wife of 13 years, Marie Bruce Carlile. Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Pat and Ruth Smith of Rex, Tony and Eva Nell Smith of Leesburg, AL, Mike and Ann Smith, of Elkton, FL; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Garland Shaft of The Villages, FL, Becky and Robert Paul of Covington, Libby and Joe Grimland of Marietta; sisters-in-law, Mattie and husband Arthur Yearwood of Tucker, Lucille Brewer of Myrtle Beach, SC; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; step children, Beverly and Gerry Grizzard of Conyers, Hugh and Jackie Owens of Conyers, and Robert Owens of Dublin. Interment services will be held on Tuesday, July 8, at 2:00 pm in the afternoon at FloralHillsMemoryGardens with Rev. Donald Reed and Rev. Scott Richardson officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family Monday from 5 until 8 pm in the evening at A. S. Turner & Sons.
