Josephine Bosserman Smoot, 89, of Atlanta died peacefully on Saturday February 19, 2011 at Emory University Hospital. Jo, as she was affectionately known, was born on October 2, 1921 in Covington, VA to W. Ernest and Minnie L. Bosserman of Covington, VA. She graduated from Covington High School in 1939. After graduating she became an accomplished floral designer for Evan's Florist in Covington for 15 years. She once made a special arrangement for the President of The United States. She also worked for Ritter Finance in Covington and Atlanta. She married Robert Horton Smoot on October 14, 1950. Shortly after relocating to Atlanta in 1970 she began working in Admissions at the Emory Clinic until retiring in 1986. A 62 year member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, she was Past State President of the Virginia Business Womens Association. She was a faithful member of Haygood Memorial United Methodist Church as well as the UMW. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, William Ernest Jr. and Clarence Lynn Bosserman. Jo is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Robert "Bob" Smoot and niece, Connie Hicks of FL. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons at 12:00 noon Tuesday February 22, 2011 with Sr. Pastor of Haygood Memorial UMC, Rev Mary Lou Gilbert officiating with Rev. Wally Rice assisting. Interment services will be held in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington, VA by Loving Funeral Home, 540-962-2283. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at A. S. Turner & Sons
