Josephine L. (Jo) Milam

July 15, 1927 — February 24, 2007

It is with great sorrow that we announce that Mrs. Jo Milam passed away on Saturday, February 24th at the age of 79 after a battle with lung cancer. Jo was born on July 15, 1927 in Eminence, Kentucky but settled in Atlanta, Georgia at a very young age with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph W. Moore.  She attended the Girls High School and the University of Georgia.  Her professional career revolved around several secretary positions, one being with Philip T. Shutze, as well as teaching Sunday School class at Grace Methodist Church.  Among her Sunday School Class were Dr. Charles Allen's children.  However the most important role she played in her life was that of a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. On June 26th , 1948 she married her lifelong love, John Andrew Milam to whom she was devotedly married to for almost 59 years.  The love that they shared glowed through her eyes and her smile whenever she was with him.  She was also a proud and caring mother to her son, Drew Milam, and her daughter, Cathy Milam Murray.  She was blessed with 4 grandchildren , Shanna Murray Werner, April Christine Alexander, Brittany Paige Milam, and Justin Andrew Milam, all of which were the light of her life.  Second in her life was her love for bowling.  Jo became a bowler in 1954.  She served on many committees and was the Only Treasurer of the Greater Atlanta Women's Bowling Association for 22 years.  As an active bowler she served on many committees representing Atlanta as a delegate to both the Georgia Women's Association Convention and the Annual WIBC Convention.  Her responsibilities to these committees took her not only all over Georgia but all over the U.S. as well.  Her first National Convention was held in Memphis and her last was in Reno.  She had participated in 44 consecutive National Women's International Bowling Tournaments and was looking forward to her 45th this year that was to be held in Charlotte, NC.  She was active in bowling until late last year even finishing 2nd in the State Tournament in November.  Funeral services will be held at Oak Grove United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 28th, Rev. Heff Hall and Rev. Louis Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at A. S. Turner & Sons
