Josephine Louise Harper

April 27, 1922 — November 25, 2014

Josephine Louise Elarbee Harper (Jo Harper) (4/27/1922- 11/25/14) of Atlanta and Jacksonville, FL went home to our Lord on Tuesday. Josephine (Jo) Harper was born in Brooklet, GA to Saphronia Rustin and Fredrick Weidinger Elarbee, Sr. She lived in Brooklet while her father was Superintendent of Schools in several Georgia counties. She received an Associate's Degree in 1942 from Georgia Southern. Jo was a long-time member of the Friendship Sunday School Class and Peachtree Road United Methodist Church.
Jo earned her real estate license and was associated with Cates Realty in Buckhead and with Cushman Corporation, developers of Colony Square. Jo continued her career in residential real estate with Dorsey Alston Realtors and was a member of the Million Dollar Club of the Atlanta Board of Realtors.
She was a loving and caring mother and was greatly loved and a mentor to both of her sons: John W. (Jack) Harper of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and G. Thomas (Tom) Harper (wife/daughter-in-law: Jamie Harper) of Jacksonville. She worked hard her entire life to contribute to the support of her family and was an example of the woman described in Proverbs 31. Her children called her blessed. There are four grandchildren: Ashley Harper, Andrew Harper (Charleston, SC) Ansley Harper and Kimberly Christine Harper (deceased-2008).
Jo is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Elizabeth Dillard of Decatur, GA and her brother, Fred W. Elarbee, Jr. of Atlanta. Jo's family is grateful for the loving care shown to her in her last years on earth by a team of caregivers lead by Mrs. Sharon Hill with Ms. Sherry Purvis, Ms. Gail Wellhousen and Mrs. Rosemary Nelson.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00pm on Monday, December 1 at A.S. Turner and Sons. Services will be lead by Pastor Bruce Kelnhofer at 11:00am on Tuesday, December 2 at A.S. Turner and Sons, 2773 N. Decatur Rd., Decatur, GA 30033 with graveside services afterward at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA.
