Joy Warren Benford

Joy Warren Benford, age 60, traded this life for her eternal reward in heaven on Monday, October 5, 2009.  Joy was born in Memphis, Tennessee on August 23, 1949 to the late Marie McPherson and the late Charles Webster McPherson.  She was educated in Shelby County School system in Tennessee and graduated from LeMoyne-Owen College with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics.  She enjoyed playing the piano and teaching mathematics.  Later she met and married Willie Lee Benford, also from Memphis.  Together,  the couple moved to Atlanta, Ga where she worked for the Internal Revenue Service.  Joy was a faithful member of Flipper Temple A.M.E. Church where she was a member of Usher Board #2.  She was later diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a nerve disease, and was cared for by Golden Living Center from 1997 until  her body could fight no more.  Joy will be greatly missed by all that knew this remarkable  lady.  She is survived by her one son, Joseph Benford and a host of friends and well-wishers.


a memorial service will be held on Friday, October 9 at 11 A.M. at Flipper Temple A.M.E. Church.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
