Mrs. Joyce Byatt Alexander passed peacefully on Sunday, April 1, 2007, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 8, 1926 in Manchester, England, the daughter of Frank and Edith Swindall-Byatt. Joyce graduated from Manchester Girls High School and Stockport College with a degree in Drafting/Blueprinting. She survived the Battle of Britain and spent 84 consecutive nights in a bomb shelter. Her indomitable spirit shaped the lives of her children and made us into the strong men and women we are today. Joyce immigrated to the U.S. on April 19, 19 46 as a war bride. Preceded in death by her husbands, Neil Jackson and "Alex" Alexander (the love of her life), she is survived by her children, Douglas Alexander, Jane Berg, Christine Eisenfeld, and Tamara Kuck; sister, Audrey Davies; grandchildren, Kira Kuck, Keith Alexander, and Chris and Lori Berg; four great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and numerous friends at Regency House, Decatur. Joyce was a character, always with a witty remark, and opinionated, but good-natured advice. She was rarely wrong! She love her arts and crafts at Regency House, spending time with her "girls", laughing and sharing stories of growing up in England during the Blitz. She was woman of great strength, courage, wisdom, and above all, love. She gave unconditional love to everyone she met. Her wonderful sense of humor and sweet nature will endear her to us forever. She now rests in the arms of angels. The body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 4th at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons with Father Neil Herlihy of St. Thomas More Catholic Church officiating. Flowers are accepted, but memorials may be name in her name to Southern Hope Humane Society, P. O. Box 768, Powder Springs, GA 30127 The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 P. M. Wednesday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
