Joyce Smith

Joyce Smith, aged 93, passed away on August 8, 2024, in Canton, Georgia due to natural causes related to dementia. Born in Miami, Florida, in 1930. Joyce spent her early years in the Sunshine State before making Atlanta her home.

Joyce was a graduate of Georgia State University and dedicated over twenty years of service to the Dekalb County Board of Education as a beloved bus driver. She was well respected and cherished by the students she transported and their families.

Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leroy Smith. She is survived by her son, Andrew Smith.

Known for her generous spirit, Joyce had a deep love for animals and wildlife. She found joy in gardening and was known for her intellectual curiosity, often engaging in meaningful conversations on a variety of topics with her friends. She also enjoyed garage sales and antiquing, always on the lookout for hidden treasures.

A graveside service to honor Joyce's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, at Floral Hills Cemetery in Tucker, Georgia.
