Juanita Blakey Blocker

February 22, 1932 — July 15, 2019

Juanita Blakey Blocker, 87, went to be with her heavenly Father on Monday, July 15, 2019. Juanita was born February 22, 1932 in Sylvania, Georgia, daughter of the late Harvey Wooten Blakey and Herman Bessie Whitner Blakey.
She was next to the youngest of eight children raised on the family farm in Sylvania, Georgia. She graduated from Jackson High School and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on a scholarship where she met her husband, Raymond Alvin Blocker. She graduated with a B. S. in Homemaking Education from Georgia State College for Women, where she was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron, an honorary sorority for home economics majors. She taught at the Savannah Vocational School and was an Assistant Home Demonstration Agent in Tattnall County. She and Ray were married on May 6, 1955. She later taught at Brenau College for Women in Gainesville, GA, before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was an active member of Bridgepoint Church, (formerly Clairmont Hills Baptist Church) for over 50 years. She taught pre-school bible study well into her 80’s and was a member of the Dorcas class and WMU. Juanita enjoyed garden club and creating floral arrangements, often winning ribbons at the Stone Mountain Yellow Daisy Festival. She was a member of the Emory Hospital women’s auxiliary, volunteering at the gift shop and enjoyed knitting baby caps for DeKalb Medical with her knitting club neighbors and friends. She was “Maneet” to Madison, MacKenzie and Rebecca whom she sewed beautiful matching dresses and took on vacations including Disneyworld, Isle of Palm, South Carolina, PEI, Cape Bretton and Bermuda.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Alvin Blocker; brothers James, Amos Churchill, Lawrence, Jesse; and sisters, Martha and Mable.
Survivors include her son, Robert Lee Blocker; daughters, Nancy Blocker Dungan and Kathy Dee Blocker; a sister, Bessie Blakey Strange; granddaughters, Madison Arden Limbacher, Karen MacKenzie Blocker and Rebecca Raye Dungan; and a great-granddaughter, Eleanor Rose Limbacher. A service to celebrate the life of both Juanita Blakey Blocker and Raymond Alvin Blocker will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 in the Chapel at Bridgepoint Church at Toco Hills at 4 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to either the Georgia Baptist Children's Home, North American Mission Board or Bridgepoint Church at Toco Hills: Mission Fund (1995 Clairmont Road, Decatur, GA 30033).
