Juanita Marie Patterson Nail, age 94, died peacefully at her home in Decatur, GA on June 15, 2010. She was born in Macon, GA on December 23, 1915. She was the daughter of the late Charles Ivey Patterson II and the late Willie Anne Rowe Patterson of Montgomery, AL. She was predeceased by her husband, Ellis Franklin Nail from Iowa, whom she married in 1938; her brother, Dr. Charles I. Patterson III of Athens, GA; and her brother-in-law, Harold Nail of Iowa. She is survived by her brother, George B. Patterson; niece, Alicia Patterson (Danny) Mobley of Conyers, GA; nephews, Charles (Chuck) I. Patterson IV (Lori) of Conyers, GA and Guy G. Patterson (Wendy) of Acworth, GA; sister-in-law Betty Nail of Iowa and a host of nieces and nephews in Atlanta and Iowa. Mrs. Nail also leaves behind her loyal caregiver/friend of six years, Ann Miles. Mrs. Nail graduated from Wesleyan College in 1938 and later received a Master’s Degree in Education from Emory University. She taught over 38 years in the Cordele, Atlanta, and Decatur Public Schools. Mrs. Nail loved the students she taught and over the years her students often visited her. Mrs. Nail was a member of the local teacher’s associations and sororities. Juanita was an active member of the North Decatur Lions Auxiliary and faithfully supported the Lions organization for over 50 years. Mrs. Nail was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur where she was a member of the Adelphia and Philathea Classes. She was an avid flower gardener and loved working in her yard. She was a member of the Petal Pushers Garden Club for over 50 years. A memorial service will be held at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur (404-292-1551) on June 18 at 1:30 PM. Friends are invited to attend. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Thursday and from 12:30 PM -1:30 PM on Friday. Burial will be at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
