Julia Ann Griffith

November 5, 1926 — September 19, 2021

Julia Ann Dobson Griffith age 94 of Atlanta passed away on September 19, 2021. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and cousin who will be greatly missed. A devoted Christian, Julia Ann was one of the longest standing members of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church.

Julia Ann was born November 5, 1926 and was a daughter of the late William Alonzo and Edith McKenzie Dobson. She is survived by daughters, Edith L. Bowman and Tracy A. Crossman; son, Henry W. Griffith, Jr.; brother, William A. Dobson, Jr.; grandson, Alan W. Crossman; great-grandchildren, Bentley W. and Kennadi L. Crossman; nephew, William A. Dobson, III and very special cousin, Leona Carder.

Growing up in a family with a background in Campfire Girls and Boys Scouts, it taught Julia Ann how to be a resilient, independent and how to ‘fix things’. She learned to be curious, loving and kind to all creatures and to always be prepared.

After twenty-seven years of marriage and raising three children, a divorce helped create that independent woman. She returned to collage and became a residential homebuilder. She built and restored several homes in Woodstock and the Emory area before retirement. She worked on projects with Jimmy Carter and his Habitat for Humanity.

Julia Ann’s home became the address for hundreds of students attending Emory University over the years from renting two apartments within her residence. Most of those students are have gone on with their lives but still kept in touch with her.

Julia Ann was a proud, native Atlantan. She was active in the community and was a huge Atlanta Braves Fan. She knew the players - old and new - by name. She even paid for the extra sports package from her cable company so she could watch all of their games.

Her adventurous spirit manifested itself in the love for traveling and visiting others. She has traveled to almost every state across the U.S., including both Alaska and Hawaii. Not to mention her travels abroad to Egypt, Mexico, Germany, England and Scotland.

Genealogy became a life long passion for Julia Ann. With her ’Twin Cousin” Leona, they spent days, weeks, months, years, even decades searching for connections to the “Clan MacKenzie”, and her Scotch/Irish ancestors.
