Funeral Notice for Julian M. Hemphill
Julian Moffatt Hemphill, 97, of Decatur went home to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of July 20, 2014. He was born on November 23, 1916, in Moreland, GA, and graduated from Erskine College in Erskine, SC. He had retired from The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta after more than 40 years of service. An avid tennis player into his late 70s, Mr. Hemphill loved sports and outdoor activities, but his greatest passions were his family and his Christian faith. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, but on occasion he loved to attend worship at White Oak Presbyterian Church in Moreland, which was founded by his grandfather. His wife and the love of his life, Mary, preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters, Julie Hughes, of Tulsa, OK, and Katherine Hemphill, of Flowery Branch, and by 6 grandchildren - Benjie Hughes, of Aurora, IL; Mandy Hughes, of Aurora, IL; Melodie Smith, of Atlanta; Theodore Hemphill, of Dawsonville; Dan Hughes, of Tulsa, OK; and Jeanne Marshall, of San Francisco, CA - and 4 great-grandchildren. A service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home in Decatur. Visitations will be held on Wednesday, July 23, from 6 - 8 p.m., and again prior to the service on Thursday from 9 - 11 a.m. A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
